About our name

You probably have heard the adage "Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky in morning, sailor's warning”.  Its first recorded use in history is in the New Testament in Matthew 16. The Pharisees and Sadducees had come to test Jesus.  They asked him to show them a sign from heaven.  Jesus answered them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’  And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.”

At Red Sky, we love science. It helps interpret the appearance of the things such as the red sky. That old adage has truth to it. Usually, in our part of the world, weather moves from west to east. So, when there is a storm system it generally moves in from the west. As sunlight passes through our atmosphere, its’ rays are split into colors of the spectrum. The amounts of water vapor and dust particles in the atmosphere determine which colors we will see in the sky. When the atmosphere is loaded with dust and moisture particles, we see a red sky. Red color wavelengths are the longest in the color spectrum and can break through the moisture particles and dust. So, we see red. Other colors have shorter wavelengths and are scattered and broken up, so we don’t see those colors (i.e. blue) when the atmosphere is in this condition.

When we see a red sky at night, it means that the setting sun is sending its light through a high concentration of dust particles. This usually indicates high pressure and stable air coming in from the west. Basically, good weather will follow.

A red sunrise can mean that a high-pressure system (good weather) has already passed, thus indicating that a storm system (low pressure) may be moving to the east. A morning sky that is a deep, fiery red can indicate that there is high water content in the atmosphere. So, rain could be on its way.

What is life?

Since the first moment of time, energy has taken a remarkable journey, transformed into atoms that in turn formed rocks, oxygen, gas, water, and then life. All your movements, all the lights in the room you are in now, your cell phone all use the energy from that initial moment in time.

The wonder of life is that the seemingly inert, lifeless energy of the big bang creation metamorphosed and became alive and sentient.

All this energy obeys the second law of thermodynamics, the law of entropy… basically the reason we are all falling apart. It says that all this energy is naturally flowing to a more disordered state. The energy is changing into a less usable form. Ultimately, this second law of thermodynamics will have its way.

Science has about 100 definitions for life, but our favorite is from physicist Erwin Schrödinger’s 1944 book What is Life in which he describes “life is reverse entropy.” Red Sky Life is about temporarily, momentarily reversing this flow of energy back to life, your life, to create wellness for you.

Our hope for you is that red sky today means wellness tomorrow.
